I was dragged by my brother V to watch The
Jungle Book from the Disney. Honestly, Watching an half-animated film on a
drizzling rainy night was not ideal. Still, V is special, and he bought me a
pricy sandwich and a 100% orange juice. Deal!
The movie’s plot is simple and kind of clichéd
– a “man cub” is left to die in a dangerous, dark and misty jungle, and adopted by a cheetah(
handsome, strict, but compassionate deeply inside) and a pack of wolves. Unsurprisingly,
the human’s child grows up mistakenly identifying himself as a male wolf. He learns
about all the wolf’s surviving shills, yet always fails to catch up with his
wolf siblings –he runs too slow, lacks furs and rough skin to shield himself
from predators, and worst of all, he couldn’t roar properly. Still, out of all
his human weakness, he is deeply loved by the head wolves, and lives happily in
the jungle.
It’s not until one day, the boy’s peaceful
life is shattered by a ferocious, contemptuous and malicious tiger whose right eye
was made blind by the “red flower” – humans’ fire while attacking them ( the
boy’s father was killed in battle). He wants to terminate the little boy for a
revenge on humans. To protect the whole wolf’s tribe, the boy is forced to
leave, and sent back to the humans’ village.
On his odyssey back to the human’s world,
the boy is forced to encounter with various dangers and grueling challenges –
being washed down by a landslide to a turbulent river, mesmerized and
hypnotized by a gigantic cobra, and almost got killed…
While the boy is away, the malicious tiger
kills the head male wolf and takes the power to rule the jungle while trying to
find a chance to kill the boy…
Like all Disney movies, the boy finally
becomes strong and wise, and saves the jungle from the hostile tiger by burning
him to ashes with the “red flower” and small tricks.
Though being cliched, The movie does shine
with its spectacular 3D CG effects and staying-alive music. Also, a few life
lessons were gained:
1. be your authentic self – when you are
human, don’t try to be a wolf.
In my life, too many times, I allow others
to take my power away for simple reasons – I want to be accepted, loved and
cared. However, the only way to receive anyone’s love is to be myself. I am not
athletic, don’t care too much about fashion and style, and not typically muscular.
Nevertheless, I have my own power and edge: I am smart and witty, persistent
and resolving! Once setting up a goal, I would never give up on it. I love
educating and reading, and knowledge is my power!
2. When life is not kind to you ( fuck you
up), don’t run away!
In the finally battle with the tiger, the
boy finally stares straight into the tiger’s eyes, and says: “ I am not running
away from you anymore, I am encountering with you!” the words gave me goosebumps. Too many times, when life is taking a heavy
toll on me , I want to run away and just never succeeded. In reality, allow the
bad thing to happen, and face it head on is the sole choice, and it will give
me a lesson or gift or whatever if I don’t retreat from it.
All in all, the movie is worth of watching in
a cinema. If you have a partner, brother or lover, just go!
