We thank God from the bottom of our hearts that we are finally together. For years, we each thought our feelings for the other were just unrequited. Yes, for years and the years spanned for a decade. For the first two years after we met, we were co-workers. Then he left for study abroad before we met again in Shanghai. In those few years, I was busying eking out a living in Shanghai while he was struggling to steady a niche in the fierce job market. We hung out once in a while. My feelings for him, instead of fading away, grew with time, until one day, he told me that he would get married. Though reluctant, I had to let him go. In such a fast-paced city as Shanghai, time always elapsed before we knew it. We had dinner at Element one day and he told me he got divorced. It had been a while, he said. It ought to have sounded like a bolt out of the blue, but I took it so well as if it just should go that way. Then I told him I would like to take him to US for a trip. He agreed. When he later narrated an account of his pine for my love, what else could I say but to hold him in my arms, covering him with kisses and exclaiming "Hallelujah".
The ten-year-marathon sounded like and ended like a fairy tale. My darling and I have lived happily ever after.
